Adaptive replica selection disabled
Adaptive replica selection is turned off. Coordinating nodes will not prefer faster or less loaded replica copies when running searches.

The following is an example of what you might see when this insight is triggered. Real insights use live data and links from your deployment or cluster.
cluster.routing.use_adaptive_replica_selection is false. Coordinating nodes do not use adaptive replica selection for search routing.
AutoOps shows different recommendations depending on how their conditions match your deployment or cluster.
Enable adaptive replica selection
Condition: Always shown for this insight.
Enable adaptive replica selection so Elasticsearch routes searches to less-loaded replicas. Use the action below.
PUT _cluster/settings
{
"persistent": {
"cluster.routing.use_adaptive_replica_selection": true
}
}
Requires the manage cluster privilege. Requires Elasticsearch 8.0.0 or later. This action changes cluster or index configuration.
Adaptive replica selection lets each coordinating node track search latency per data node and prefer healthier shard copies for each search. That improves search latency and throughput and reduces load on already busy nodes.
The feature has been available since Elasticsearch 6.1 and is enabled by default on version 7 and later. Turning it off can leave distressed nodes in the search path longer than necessary.
Until the setting is enabled again, search traffic might stay uneven across replicas and a slow node can delay responses for more requests.
