Power to Fly - Diversity reboot

Power to Fly was founded by Milena Berry and Katherine Zalenski as a platform for employees, Fortune 500 companies, and startups who value gender diversity and inclusion to connect. The Power to Fly platform promotes diversity recruiting and hiring through a series of targeted job promotions, search tools, and branding services for companies looking to hire. Best thing of all Power to Fly is 100% women led and run by a majority female staff.

In addition to their job board and recruiting platform, Power to Fly holds regular events for employers and employees to talk about important issues. One such event, Diversity Reboot 2020, which took place on June 15-18, was a free virtual gathering for women, allies, policymakers, and business leaders. Diversity Reboot was a chance to talk about how the virtual workplace offers challenges as well as unique opportunities to rebuild the physical workplace into a more diverse offering.

Two of our Elasticians joined the event to present on different topics: Leah Sutton, Senior Vice President of Global HR and Raya Fratkina, Director of Engineering at Elastic. Leah was on hand to discuss Elastic’s distributed nature, why we’ve been that way from the beginning, and our plans for after the pandemic. She also discussed the importance of the Elastic Source Code and how we try to embody it in everything we do.

In her for-beginners talk, Raya Fratkina demoed Kibana tools for data analysis and visualization, and talked about the various ways to share these powerful tools with colleagues. We recently talked to Raya about her work on Kibana and being a single mother in tech.

You can watch Leah’s talk on the Future of Work: An Introduction To Distributed Company and Raya’s talk on Data Visualization with Elastic Stack: An Introduction on the Power to Fly website.
