Elastic’s guide to AI in the interview process

As the Search AI Company, we understand the value of AI. We use it. We build with it. We believe in its power to augment human potential. But when you’re applying to join Elastic, we’re searching for you.
While AI can be a great tool to proofread, structure your thoughts, or brainstorm responses to potential interview questions, it shouldn’t be used to create experiences and skills that aren’t yours.
Our Source Code encourages you to "Come as YOU are." That means we want to hear about your unique perspective, your experiences, your skills, and your specific ways of solving challenges. So, if you’re thinking about using AI in any part of your application, make sure you use it to help show who you are instead of creating a persona that isn’t you.
We value honesty from day one. To keep things fair and avoid bias, we use AI monitoring tools throughout our hiring process to identify anyone using technology for deception or to gain an unfair advantage.
Guidelines for candidates
To help you out, here are some quick guidelines for using AI as you explore a career at Elastic.
| Keep it real | We’re hiring for your potential, your judgment, and your ability to grow with us. While AI tools are great for helping you organize your thoughts or polish your resume, they shouldn't be doing the "thinking" for you. Our goal is to get to know the authentic you in every part of the hiring process, from your initial application to our final conversation. That also means keeping our conversations strictly human-to-human without the interference of AI tools. |
| Own the “why” | If you used AI during your preparation to help solve a challenge or structure a presentation, we’re interested in the journey you took to get there. Be ready to talk us through how you chose your approach and why you took the actions you did. |
| Check for accuracy | AI can be a great tool, but it can also get things wrong. If your application contains AI-generated fabrications or hallucinations about your background or Elastic, it’s up to you to rectify it before you hit send. |
Note: Elastic’s distributed work culture is built on trust. If we find that any part of your application or interview was intentionally misrepresented, it won't just disqualify you from the process; it could lead to termination if you’ve already joined the team. We’d much rather you be real with us from the start.
