Elastic Stack Data Administration I

Course Summary

This hands-on, instructor-led in-classroom or virtual classroom course guides you through all the Elastic Stack components: Beats, Logstash, Elasticsearch, and Kibana, and explains how they interact with each other. The main focus of the course is on data administration, a key strategic role of many modern companies. Data administration starts by extracting data with tools like Beats and Logstash, which allows you to reliably collect different types of data (e.g. metrics, application logs, and tweets). After the data is collected, it is normalized, enriched, and finally stored in Elasticsearch to be searched and analyzed using Kibana. In addition to walking through the described process with lectures and hands-on labs, we will also discuss common pitfalls and what is the best architecture for various use cases.

Course Details

This course will replace our current course offering the Elastic Stack Workshop training starting October 2017 from 1 day to 2 days.

This instructor-led in-classroom or virtual classroom course focuses on how to use the Elastic Stack to better administrate your data improving insights and performance. You will learn how to use Beats to collect and analyze system, service, and network data. You will ingest, parse, enrich and analyze CSV and log events with Filebeat, Logstash and the Elasticsearch Ingest Node. This course also covers how to deploy different architectures for different use cases. Through a series of extensive hands-on labs, you will ingest data into Elasticsearch and analyze it in Kibana as you work your way through the various skills needed of an Elastic Stack Data Administrator.

  • No prior knowledge of the Elastic Stack is required
  • Comfort using the terminal or command line is recommended
  • Laptop with connectivity to Wi-Fi
  • Mac, Linux OS, or Windows 7 or later
  • A modern web browser
  • Java version 1.8u20 or later installed
  • At least 20% free disk space
  • We require participants to download the latest version of Chrome or Firefox. (Safari isn’t 100% supported in the virtual environment).
  • The virtual classroom uses lots of JavaScript. We recommend that you disable any ad-blockers (some interfere with the virtual classroom) and that you restart your Web Browser before logging in.
