Serverless
Serverless is a deployment option that, alongside self-managed, ECE/ECK, and dedicated Elastic Cloud, is hosted inside Elastic Cloud and delivers a fully managed experience that abstracts away the underlying infrastructure. You won’t have to wait for servers to provision, and you won’t have to manage and scale Elasticsearch clusters.
The infrastructure will be completely abstracted away, and what you’ll get is a more SaaS-like experience that is immediately available, with no infrastructure to see or manage. This allows you to automatically access the latest features of Elastic without worrying about managing your cluster or updating your version.
1. Navigate to your Elastic Cloud home page.
2. Under Serverless projects, select the option to create your first serverless project.
3. Select the solution you want to use (Elasticsearch, Elasticsearch Observability, or Elastic Security. Keep in mind that Observability and Security solutions also come with Elasticsearch included. An intentional limitation of Serverless is that you can only select one solution at a time. For this tutorial, you will get started with Elasticsearch. Once you've chosen your solution, click the "Next" button.
4. For Elasticsearch, you will need to select the type of configuration you want to start with; the options are:
General purpose: Appropriate for general search use cases across various data types
Vector search optimized: use cases using vector similarity operations and near real-time retrieval
Time series optimized: for retention and analysis of high volume time-series data, such as logs or analytics.
You will also select your cloud provider and cloud region, and then click the "Create serverless project" button.
5. While the project is being created, you should see a screen with a video to indicate that it is loading.
6. After a few minutes, you should see a 'Continue' button, indicating that your cluster is ready for use. Be sure to click that button.
7. You should see a screen that guides you through creating your first index in Elasticsearch. At this point, you have successfully set up your Serverless cluster 🎉
