This Week in Elasticsearch - July 02, 2013

Welcome to the first issue of This Week in Elasticsearch. In this format we try to inform you about the latest and greatest changes in elasticsearch. We try to cover what happened in the github repositories, as well as all the events in the elasticsearch community and give you a small peek into the future.

Elasticsearch core

  • Elasticsearch 0.90.2 was released last week. This release includes some fixes regarding the term filter lookup and introduces a very fast geo_hash cell filter.
  • The master branch of elasticsearch got plenty of bugfixes in the last few days, which have mostly been backported into the 0.90 branch as well (including the 0.90.2 release).
  • Distributed percolator: We are currently working on making the percolator more distributed and scalable.
  • Term Vector API: The recently added term vector request (which is only in master) exposes information on terms in selected fields
  • Fixes: Memory usage improvements in field data (#3220), index warmer settings are dynamic now (#3246), geo shape filter can handle multiple shapes (#3242)

Elasticsearch ecosystem

Elasticsearch maintains a number of projects outside the core server code. In this section, we will try to give you some more information about what is happening in the ecosystem around elasticsearch, be it plugin or driver releases or news about kibana.

  • In order to support discovery on GCE (Google Compute Engine), we are currently preparing a plugin, which will be able to autodiscover other nodes, even though multicast is disabled on GCE.

Elasticsearch community

Got an interesting open source project, plugin, driver or anything else for elasticsearch? Here is your time to shine! Just drop us a note and we will list it here (and on the .org website, of course!).

Meetups

There are plenty of meetup groups about elasticsearch on meetup.com, so maybe a meetup for your city already exists. In case you could not find your favorite city for a meetup in the list, contact us and let us try to create an elasticsearch user group!

Talks

Also, if you are interested in a core elasticsearch training, the next dates are Munich next week, or San Francisco and New York the week after. For more dates, check the training page

Want to work at Elasticsearch? We are hiring! We are interested in your skills, not in your location. Drop us a note if you are interested.
