This Week in Elasticsearch - July 11, 2013
Welcome to the second issue of This Week in Elasticsearch. In this format we try to inform you about the latest and greatest changes in elasticsearch. We try to cover what happened in the github repositories, as well as all the events happening about elasticsearch and give you a small peek in the future.
Elasticsearch core
- Big geo refactoring: Null shapes can be indexed, the spatial4j dependency is not needed on clients anymore, support for circle shapes has been added. And shapes crossing the -180/+180 longitude dateline are now wrapped correctly. See more at the commit comment
- New maintenance/administration REST endpoints have been added, called
_cat
endpoints, as these can be easily checked out via the commandline. Using either/_cat/master
to get information about the current master node,/_cat/nodes
to get basic information about all nodes in your cluster like id, ip, port, jdk version, memory information or/_cat/shards
in order to get a quick overview which shards are placed at which nodes in your cluster. - Aggregration module: In order to make the current facetting approach more flexible, a functional design phase has been started. This module intends to introduce a new framework inside of elasticsearch to aggregate data and is going to have far more flexibility than the current facet approach. We are happy to get any feedback about this, so please comment at the github issue
- Various issues regarding Multi-Get have been fixed (#3274, #3267). These fixes have also been incorporated into the 0.90 branch.
Elasticsearch ecosystem
We try to give you some more information about what is happening in the ecosystem we are maintaining around elasticsearch, be it plugin or driver releases or news about kibana.
- The RabbitMQ River Plugin has been updated to 1.6.0 work with elasticsearch 0.90.2
- The Groovy Plugin has been updated to 1.5.0 with minor fixes and enhancements
Elasticsearch community
Got an interesting open source project, plugin, driver or anything else for elasticsearch? Here is your time to shine! Just drop us a note and we will list it here (and on the .org website, of course!).
- An updated version of the monitoring plugin Bigdesk by Lukas Vlcek has been released
- Graylog2 0.13.0-rc.1 has been released, which supports elasticsearch 0.90.2
- The Carrot2 plugin has been released, which supports on-the-fly clustering
- hekad recently got an elasticsearch output module. Heka is a tool to simplify the collection, analysis, and transportation of data across your cluster/server (here is a short introduction).
Meetups
- The NY Times and an elasticsearch developer will present at the next Elasticsearch Meetup in New York at the 16th of July
Talks/Slides
- Slides from an introduction from David Pilato at the MarseilleJUG are available
- Honza Krals talk about elasticsearch at EuroPython has been recorded
Also, if you are interested in a core elasticsearch training, the next dates are San Francisco and New York the next week. For more dates, check the training page
If you are interested in all this, we are hiring. We are interested in your skills, not in your location. Just drop us a note.
